One thing is for sure, whatever they do, Italians do it with style and we thank Domenico and Cynthia for their trust and their inspiring story:
“We met briefly in Brisbane in 2013 at a party. A year later, Domenico’s niece would make sure that our paths crossed again. Our connection was instant and manifested through our love of food, travel, and a positive outlook on life.
At the beginning of 2016 we moved from Brisbane to Sydney. We left the life we had built in Brisbane since emigrating from our native countries for new opportunities. Starting anew in Sydney, we threw ourselves into our love of opera which allowed us to frequently visit the iconic Sydney Opera House.
Our evenings at the opera would be the inspiration for Domenico’s legendary marriage proposal. He organised with Opera Australia for the proposal to happen on stage in the Joan Sutherland Theatre on 22 January, 2017. Under the guise of ‘audience participation’, we were called up on stage by Maestro Guy Noble. We danced and Domenico sang his rendition of ‘Largo al Factotum (della città)’ from The Barber of Seville. The Maestro passed Domenico the microphone and it wasn’t long before he was on one knee.
Though we were joined that day by several hundred audience members, our families in Canada and Italy were not with us. We called Danijel so that we could capture our engagement joy in photos to send back home. Cyclone Debbie derailed our plans to shoot around the Opera House and the result is what you see here: drenched but happy. Infinite thanks go out to Daniel for weathering the storm, helping us embrace the fun in our rainy day, but most of all for his artful direction and shooting.”
